Yopeckummah by Yopeckummah

Released on Nov 27th, 2022.

About this Release:

I saw Congo Natty play at the Bussey Building in Peckham in 2010 or 2011 and one of the MCs would yell between songs "yo peckham uh, are you feeling it!?"

This show was so good I made a band named Yopeckummah that was afrobeat loops with live funk drums and dancehall accapellas because I also felt really inspired by the Afrodisiac Soundsystem song that was a mashup of Rayvon and Fela Kuti.

Congo Natty were so good live. Just amazing. I played this project out live in Winnipeg in 2012, mostly with Michel Germain working the loops.

In September of 2021 me and Michel went into Argyle studio with Crabskull and put 4 tracks down. I wanted to have an archive of this material that sounded good. Anthony Carvalho and Rusty Matayas helped out with some mixing on this and this is the end result.

Also, I have to acknowledge that I am a straight white man who mashed up a lot of black music here with some deeply misogynistic lyrics to boot. So if you enjoy this music and want to say thanks and are white, please buy the book Me and White Supremacy by Layla F. Saad and read it / do the journaling excercises! I have done this and I highly recommend it.

If you would like the wav files please just email me at thecookieisdelicious@gmail.com
